ごまかし
次のような表現が使われているのを何度か見かけました。

smoke and mirrors は、次のような定義が載っています。

マジシャンが使う smoke = 煙と mirrors = 鏡から、「巧妙なトリック / うそ、人を欺くもの、ごまかし」 という意味があります。
この smoke and mirrors という表現は、アメリカの新聞記者が、ウォーターゲート事件に関しての著書の中で、下記のように書かれたのが短くなったものだそうです。
All political power is primarily an illusion. Mirrors and blue smoke, beautiful blue smoke rolling over the surface of highly polished mirrors.
（全ての政治権力は、主として幻想である。鏡と青い煙で、きれいな青い煙がピカピカに磨かれた鏡の表面を巡っている。）
原文のように、blue smoke and mirrors と使われることもあるようです。
smoke = 実質のないもの、まやかしで、一般市民を欺くことは許されませんね。
国の指導者は、ごまかしのない transparent = 透明な状態であるべきだと思います。
